Stella Kearns is an experienced illustrator living and working in County Wicklow. Her character led cartoon style lends itself very well to children’s illustrations and publishing and material. Through her many years working in major animation studios - such as Emerald City Productions ltd, Sullivan Bluth, Murakami Wolfe, Monster, Caboom Ltd. and Brown Bag Films - Stella found her niche in character design and development. The skills she built up in animation led naturally into the world of children’s illustration. Her strength as an illustrator is her ability to create and bring characters to life. As her commissions grew for her style of illustration, she decided to concentrate in this area and launched her new business ‘Little Star Illustrations’ in 2016. As an artist and a mother she saw a gap in the market to bring her work to a particular clientele. Using drawings of children based on the individual child is another unique side to her work. She captures the personality and likeness of a child in a caricature style illustration and incorporates it with their name into a wonderful piece of art. Stella presently works with rendered pencil as she loves the simplicity and aliveness of working in this medium which allows her creative artistic skill in drawing be expressed. She loves the strong simple black and white images with touches of red ink, which is now quickly becoming her brand statement. Her work has been exported to many countries around the world and some of her designs can be seen at the ‘The Boat Yard Gallery’ in Greystones and at ‘The Irish Design Gallery’ in Dunlaoghaire where she exhibits her work. She has three different childrens’ book projects in the early stages of development and production and is excited about all the new opportunities that her skill as an illustrator is bringing.
